I also think it’s a shame Phil Bourassa couldn’t do the designs for this to keep the cohesion with the shared universe and I’m a big fan of his designs in general, still the designs here were good enough if a little too cartoony. That Centaur Guy was fun too, I wouldn’t have minded another scene or two with him. Steve and Etta were fun as supporting characters, even if they leaned a little too much on the sassy black woman trope for Etta. Tho Diana was probably a little too forgiving given that she became a murderer. Speaking of Silver Swan, she was actually a good villain since she actually had a character arc and understandable motivations. Not to mention her going in the field and personally shooting Silver Swan’s mom made zero sense for the character. As for Veronica Cale, I knew she’d be revealed as a villain eventually just because I’ve read some comics with her in it, but the way they handled it in the movie was kinda clumsy, the way they just shove it at the end and have Diana make her discovery offscreen. Wonder Woman: Bloodlines follows a similar track at first, but expands the timeline of the story much further than your standard origin retread and gives the film a unique identity. The actual fight scene tho was fun and Diana did some hardcore shit to win. We pretty much get zero motivation for what she’s doing and her character is bland. It was nice to see a bunch of Wonder Woman’s villains, but almost none of them were given enough focus to justify their presence and then the bait and switch to Medusa as villain for the climax was just awful. The story itself felt overly bland and for the part they fumbled with the villains. The origin story bits were wholly unnecessary since I guarantee anybody that will watch this has already watched her live-action movie, and they didn’t really add anything new or anything. She also has a very similar if not the same design, outfit, and the same voice actress with Rosario Dawson returning to voice her again. None of the other Justice League members make an appearance, but there’s a slight throwaway line that mentions Diana’s relationship with Superman, something that happened in the early stages of this continuity before he fully got with Lois Lane in the Death of Superman. This starts with a Wonder Woman origin story, then jumps ahead into the present. While it’s not overly important in the grand scheme of things, this falls somewhere between being a stand alone movie and being a part of the overall DC Animated Universe that started with Justice League: War. It’s also a fun moment when they release the Minotaur, give him the name Ferdinand, and he basically becomes a homebody. It’s a little on the exaggerated side of things, but it works well enough in such a short film. Vanessa joins the villains and becomes Silver Swan through the help of Doctor Cyber and Doctor Poison. It’s basically the prodigal daughter story as Diana is the perfect daughter so Vanessa becomes jealous and rebels. The film sets up a rivalry between Vanessa and Diana in such a way that Diana was completely oblivious to it. The heart of the story centered around Vanessa, the teenage daughter of the woman that initially integrated Diana into modern culture after she left Themyscira. It was never a punch first, ask questions later, it felt much more in the vein of Steven Universe where fighting is typically the last resort. Another great aspect of this film was the nontraditional problem solving done by the characters.
